Vinyl floor application

Vinyl flooring is a popular choice for many homeowners due to its durability, ease of maintenance, and variety of styles. However, the key to a long-lasting and professional-looking vinyl floor lies in the proper application of vinyl floor adhesive. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps on how to apply vinyl floor adhesive effectively, and how to choose which vinyl flooring adhesive is best for your project.

What Is Vinyl Floor Adhesive?

Before diving into the application process, it’s important to understand what vinyl floor adhesive is and why it’s crucial. Vinyl flooring adhesive, also known as vinyl flooring glue, is specially formulated to bond vinyl tiles or sheets to the subfloor. This adhesive ensures that the flooring stays in place, preventing lifting, curling, or shifting over time.

Alongside your vinyl flooring tiles or sheets, here are the key materials you’ll need to apply vinyl floor adhesive:

Preparation:
  1. Clean the Subfloor: Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and free of dust, debris, or any previous adhesive residue. This will help the adhesive bond properly.
  2. Acclimate the Vinyl Flooring: Lay the vinyl flooring in the room where it will be installed for at least 48 hours to acclimate to the room temperature.
  3. Measure and Mark: Measure the area where the vinyl flooring will be applied. Mark the centre of the room, dividing it into quadrants for easier installation. Remember, it's essential to prioritise your comfort and safety. Our knee pad selection caters to various preferences and needs.

  1. Apply the Adhesive: Spread the vinyl floor adhesive on the subfloor using your adhesive trowel. Hold the trowel at a 45-degree angle to ensure an even layer of adhesive. Work in small sections to prevent the adhesive from drying out before the vinyl is applied.
  2. Lay the Vinyl Flooring: Begin laying the vinyl flooring tiles or sheets from the centre of the room. Press the vinyl firmly into the adhesive, smoothing out any air bubbles.
  3. Roll the Flooring: Use a roller to go over the vinyl flooring, ensuring it is firmly bonded to the adhesive. This helps to eliminate air bubbles and ensure a strong bond.

  2. Allow to Cure: Allow the adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions before walking on the floor.
  3. Clean Up: Clean up any excess adhesive immediately using a damp cloth to prevent it from hardening on the vinyl surface.
